Military life comes with its own language, acronyms, traditions, and occasional moments that make you wonder whether someone is secretly testing your ability to stay calm.
We all have our own unofficial definitions:
TRICARE: Telephone Roulette
PCS: Packing, Crying, Stressing
TAD: Temporarily Away, Definitely
FRG: Friends, Resources, and Group-Text Notifications
Of course, behind the humor are real experiences: long phone calls, sudden schedule changes, moves that seem to require more boxes than any family should own, missed holidays, new schools, new communities, and the ongoing art of making plans that may change at any moment.
That is where the NALO Navigator site comes in.
As your Ombudsman, I am here to help you navigate the beautiful, unexpected, stressful, meaningful, happy, exhausting, and sometimes completely confusing moments that can come with military life. Whether you are new to the command, preparing for a PCS, trying to understand a resource, looking for support, or simply trying to figure out who to call first, this is a place to start.
And sometimes, what you need support with has nothing to do with military life at all.
Maybe you are adjusting to a new community, balancing work and family, looking for local resources, navigating parenting challenges, celebrating a major milestone, or simply needing to know that you are not alone. Military families are made up of whole people with full, complicated, wonderful lives beyond the duty schedule.
I am here to share helpful information, connect families with resources, celebrate our community, and offer a little encouragement along the way. We may not be able to eliminate every acronym, hold time, or last-minute change of plans—but we can help make the path a little clearer.
Welcome aboard. You do not have to navigate it all alone.
